(January 17, 2008) The Regional Special Events Center Is it the home of Murray State Basketball? If asked, I think most people would quickly answer yes. However, they aren’t treated like the homeowner. As I write this, the Racers are disposing of Indiana South Bend, in what amounts to a warm up game between highly important conference contests. They’ve just came off an outstanding performance which concluded in an 82-70 victory over rival Austin Peay. It is now Tuesday January 15th and they will hit the road for a pivotal conference match up versus UT Martin this Saturday. UT Martin comes into the game with two of the most prolific scorers in the league and the Racers will need to be well prepared and at their best. Unfortunately, they’ll be at a competitive disadvantage due to the lack of a sufficient practice facility. You see there is a boat show this weekend and the Racers (Men and Women alike) will not have access to their “HOME”. They will have to find alternate locations to prepare for their important match ups. This will be at least the third time this season the Racers have been in this situation. They were also confronted with this problem prior to the Mississippi State and Western Kentucky games. I compare this to a stranger coming along and telling you to move out of your house for a few days. So what if it inconveniences you and deprives you of your home, that’s how it’s going to be. Your home wasn’t built for the purpose of that stranger, it was built for you. Without your support your home couldn’t and wouldn’t exist, yet this stranger takes it at their disposal without your input or approval. You see you don’t really own the home that was built for you. You were just the tool used to purchase it. Would there be a need for that building without Murray State Basketball? Does anyone believe that building would be in Murray, KY if not for Racer Basketball and its supporters? The answer to that is a resounding no. It would not. So I ask who is the main tenant at the RSEC? Their really isn’t any question to that is their? We all know who that is. We all know why it was built and who made it possible. Racer Basketball and its supporters were the driving force behind it. That’s a fact that has unfortunately been forgotten by some. Racer Basketball fans demand the best out of their team. They demand championships and 20 wins every year and refuse to settle for less. They should also refuse to settle for their Racers being treated as a secondary priority in their own home. Go Racers! Sincerely,
