Zabius Henderson commits to
Murray State
|
09/19/11 - Zabius "Zay" Henderson told the Racer Insider
this afternoon that he has committed to Murray State.
Henderson is a 6-8 power forward from Neville High
School in Monroe, LA.
"Murray State is a good
school with great academics," Henderson said. "I love
the campus and the team. But the main thing about it is,
they win. I saw all the banners, the NCAA appearances
and the NIT."
Henderson's father, Charles Ellis
came with him on his visit.
"I was very
impressed," he noted. "I was impressed by the coaches.
They didn't press Zabius into making a commitment. And
they made sure we were taken care of. The people in the
community was just lovely and the atmosphere at the
football game was terrific. Zabius is a good kid and
playing basketball has motivated him to work hard in the
classroom."
Last season Henderson averaged 17
points and 14 rebounds. He chose Murray State over
Louisiana Tech and Tulane.
When asked to describe
his game he said simply, "I do my best to do what the
coach requires of me. I do whatever it takes to win."
"He's been a four year starter for us," NHS
assistant coach Vincent Burks said. "He's a hard worker
and he's a student of the game. He's a shot blocker and
a rebounder and he can run and dunk. He has a 35 inch
vertical leap.
"He'll have to work on his
offensive moves but he's done that over the summer. We
had a senior last year who scored a lot of points for us
so he didn't have to score that much last year. And
although he weighs 220 I think he can get a lot
stronger."
